Dorchester and The Local Area

West Dorset is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Tudor Cottage at the heart of Hardy Country is ideally situated close to splendid coastal and beautiful inland paths with spectacular views of the rolling green Wessex landscape, yet it is still convenient for both the A35 and A37.

We are close to the Jurassic Coast and many fine country houses and stunning gardens are within easy reach.  You could go fossil hunting at Kimmeridge, try your hand at mackerel fishing from West Bay; enjoy Bridport’s vintage quarter; visit Thomas Hardy’s cottage.  Stand close to hatching cygnets at Abbotsbury Swannery; try Llama trekking or visit pretty Cerne Abbas with its famous chalk giant and ruined Abbey.

Spend a day by the sea at Weymouth, Lulworth Cove or Ringstead Bay, walk along bracing Chesil Beach; climb Golden Cap, conjure up the French Lieutenant’s Woman on the Cobb at Lyme Regis or the legendary ghosts on beautiful Eggardon Hill with its 360 degree panoramic view as far as East Devon on a clear day.
